The Lean Paper Airplane Simulation is an interactive Lean training experience designed to help participants experience how a real production line works through hands-on practice.

In the first round, an unbalanced workload, excessive WIP, and a chaotic production environment emerge.

With each improvement round, the process is redesigned, workloads are balanced, and the team learns how to create a smoother flow using the same resources.

🚀 How Does the Simulation Work?

1️⃣ Traditional Production — Push

In the first round, the team works with a traditional Push system.

Workloads are unevenly distributed across operators.

WIP quickly builds up.

Bottlenecks emerge.

Participants directly experience the causes of stress, waiting, and disruption on a production line.

2️⃣ Organization with 5S and Kanban

In the second round, the workplace is reorganized.

5S creates visual order and improves workplace organization.

A Kanban system is introduced to control unnecessary WIP between workstations.

The team begins to see the impact of its first Kaizen improvements on flow.

3️⃣ Line Balancing and Flow

In the final stage, the team redistributes the workload to balance the line.

Simple fixtures are introduced to make the process easier.

Waiting is reduced.

Lead Time decreases.

Using the same team and the same resources, the participants create a much more efficient production system.
